IRB World Sevens Series Hong Kong

IRB World Series Sevens Tournament in Hong Kong:

The most famous of all Sevens Tournament venues is Hong Kong.
In the last four years, England has dominated and won.

For the third time in a row, the Pacific Islands showed the way in the IRB Sevens World Series.
In Wellington and San Diego, Fiji and Samoa battled it out to see who would emerge the winner.
In the best of ways, both Pacific Island nations won out, in Wellington it was Samoa who won and in San Diego it was Fiji.
The question on everyone's lips was who would reach the final of the most famous of all the IRB Sevens world series tournamnets - Hong Kong.
It was in 1976 that Hong Kong first hosted the major Sevens tournment, and it has always been the wish of every Sevens player since to be a member of a winning team before the big and enthusiastic crowd that turns up each year since for three days of full on Sevens action.
Samoa won only once before, way back in 1993 with a team full of well known players, many of whom played against the All Blacks in the first meeting between Samoa and New Zealand that same year, in fact some of that 1993 team later became All Blacks.
Fiji was itching to again win in Hong Kong, many children in Fiji dream of winning in Hong Kong for their country.
The greatest player of them all, the maestro Waisale Serevi knew that Hong Kong was special and that probably New Zealand would be a threat, although England had won the last four years.
Little did anyone realise that the final would again be between a resurgent Samoa and Fiji and that the game would be literally a game of two halves.
Samoa shocked the Fiji team with a 27-0 trouncing in the first half.
Fiji came back magnificently in the second half and Samoa managed to hold on and take the championship 27-22.
